He eventually got a job with a top end BMW dealership where he worked for 8 years, earning salesman of the month 7 times. He recently accepted a job with BMW of South Atlanta and has relocated. His street smarts translated well to car sales once he changed his image to include a collared shirt, slacks and a tie.
Anna had never had a job in her long drug addicted life. Upon her release from prison, she worked at Dunkin Donuts and had her first paid vacation at the age of 40. Through encouragement and support, she eventually became shift supervisor. She was initially intimidated by the promotion; however constant positive reinforcement gave her the confidence to accept the position. The most memorable part of this story was from her first Christmas with a job. She purchased over $300 worth of presents from her modest salary, took pictures and cried half the day because the last Christmas that she was around, she sold the presents to feed her habit. Her family was very proud of her.
John “Red” Shea authored a book, “Rat Bastard” after being released from custody and while under supervision.
Testimony of Hope. Charles worked hard to get a job and eventually impressed an employer with his commitment by showing up in inclement weather looking for work. Charles got hired but he caught pneumonia three weeks later from being out in the bad weather. He was hospitalized and treated with narcotics and relapsed into addiction. Charles was very emotional and apologetic for not living up to expectations. If you raise the bar they will try to reach it.
